Cora felt that Sherman had brought this on himself, her relationship wasn’t perfect but it was also no one’s concern but her own; while Sherman not working was everyone’s business. Yes her father was going to cut into Sherman, perhaps just a little more than necessary, but Cora felt it’s what Sherman deserved for trying to stir up her mother.
Mathias couldn’t understand why Sherman would turn away opportunity after opportunity offered to him by his parents’ money and connections. Mathias found him to be wasteful but Sherman didn’t care. He would never be happy in the world his parents had created, he had to get out and create his own. In order to remain on his own though he needed to buckle down and focus.
